EPA Methods Update Rule - 1633A, 1621, 1628 & ASTM D8421
December 18th, 2024
On December 6, 2024 the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) signed a new proposed Methods Update Rule (MUR), MUR 22, to update the list of approved methods for the analysis of PFAS, PCBs and other chemicals. The new MUR also proposed to codify ASTM D8421, a test method for the analysis of PFAS in Aqueous Matrices.
Reference Standards for EPA Methods Update Rule (MUR), MUR 22
AccuStandard offers a comprehensive selection of Certified Reference Materials (CRMs) for the EPA Methods outlined in MUR 22.
For more information, read the EPA's Methods Update Rule 22.
ASTM D8421 - Standard Test Method for Determination of Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances (PFAS) in Aqueous Matrices by Co-solvation followed by Liquid Chromatography Tandem Mass Spectrometry (LC/MS/MS)
EPA Method 1633A - Analysis of Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances (PFAS) in Aqueous, Solid, Biosolids, and Tissue Samples by LC-MS/MS
As part of MUR 22, the EPA has released EPA Method 1633, Revision A, which measures the same 40 PFAS outlined in ASTM D8421. This method was the result of a collaboration between the EPA’s Office of Water and the Department of Defense.
EPA Method 1621 - Determination of Adsorbable Organic Fluorine (AOF) in Aqueous Matrices by Combustion Ion Chromatography (CIC)
EPA Method 1628 - Polychlorinated Biphenyl (PCB) Congeners in Water, Soil, Sediment, Biosolids, and Tissue by Low-resolution GC/MS using Selected Ion Monitoring
